Sep 04, 2006 · Going 8 bit or 10 bit is moot assuming the material is 8 bit native and assuming your display is 10bit (its a case of doing the inflation at source or display and whether one is any better than the other) , whereas going 4:2:2 at 10bit represents a loss compared with 4:4:4 at 8bit.
HDR works (but with very poor picture quality) at 4:2:0 & 4:2:2 at 10 & 12 bit – but not at 8 bit. 4:4:4 doesn’t work in HDR at all due 10 & 12 bit not being supported. I would be happy with HDR at 4:2:2 10 or 12 bit if the picture actually looked okay.
